Today, Friends of Victoria Park managed to plant out 1500 wildflower plug plants in the area adjacent to the expressway which has some rewilding. This area was cleared of dead vegetation last week using scythes the material removed away from the site. We had 6 volunteers working hard the plants being supplied by the Council. We look forward to a great display next summer and future summers.

Thanks to our love volunteers who came out this morning and got stuck in clearing the unwanted growth before winter arrives. We had about 12 folk out which allowed us to make a big impact. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the pics and the short video.
Cheers. FoVP. Tonight, Wednesday, Friends held our bat walk and we had a great turn ; we had going on for 30 folk, some from the Southside of Glasgow and dozens of bats. Our detectors worked well and we believe we were watching certainly of the 2x types of pipistrelle and the daubenton. There was great excitement as the bats swooped over our heads and around us; the bats are simply feeding on insects not interested in people. We can’t repeat this year but please watch out for a repeat possibly in Spring. Apologies for cancelling last week event due to very wet weather. Thanks. Work is officially under way to upgrade the sports courts in Victoria Park, Glasgow, marking a significant step forward in providing high-quality, free-to-use facilities for the local community. The redevelopment will deliver two dual-use basketball and netball courts, designed to encourage more people to get active and enjoy sport in a welcoming outdoor environment. The work has been funded by FCC Landfill Communities Fund, sportscotland Sports Facilities Fund, the Lottery Fund, Glasgow City Council (Developer Contribution and Area Partnership) and Glasgow Life. A steering group comprising Victoria Park Community Trust, Glasgow City Council, Basketball Scotland and Gandon Sports Consultancy collaborated with Glasgow Life to secure £120k funds required to complete the project and shape the vision for the courts. This group will continue to work together to deliver a vibrant programme of activities for the local community once the courts are open. An official launch date will be confirmed soon. It will be great to see the courts in action. Artist’s impression of upgraded netball / basketball courts. (Cambridge Creative) |
